RAP/HIP-HoP: ACTIONS & WORDS SPEAK THE LOUDEST TOGETHER
Rap: rogue and revolutionary |
Born as Felipe Andres Colonel, Peruvian rapper Immortal Technique is revolutionary who fights "out of love for [his] people, not hatred for others" (Poverty of Philosophy). All of the music that Colonel writes addresses the injustices of the world and the exploitation of his fellow Latino people and others around the world. Colonel has been rapping since 2000, and makes it a point to enlighten audience on religion and the realities of poverty, institutionalized racism, and the impacts of having a social-class structured society.
In one of his early songs,Poverty of Philosophy, Immortal Technique goes into depth with his purpose and expresses specifically that his battle is not only against the undermining of Latinos and minorities. Immortal Technique also fights to free the United States' working-class and lower class of the ignorance that is caused by material wealth being sought out by people rather than better standards of living for their communities. |
Hip hop: voices for the silenced and unheard |
Among the enormous number of known hip hop artists and rappers known throughout history, only a handful of them served as representatives of the streets. For urban societies all over the U.S, not just the areas of their own upbringing, it takes a real leader and messenger to convey the message of standing up for one's rights as a member of society. This element is what makes artists such as Queen Latifah, 2Pac, Chuck D, Mos Def and a handful of other rappers stand out. |
